WolverineÄôs Past Divulged in X-Men Origins: Wolverine
If you thought Hollywood was only going to make three X-Men films based on the marvel comics you were probably as surprised as the rest of us when a new film was announced! When X-Men was first released as a feature length film the studio announced they would do three films and no more. Well, I guess the popularity of the films changed their minds for them! And are we disappointed? I think not. Who doesn’t want to see Hugh Jackman in his role as Wolverine again!
Yes, just in case you haven’t been able to keep up with the news Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Logan aka Wolverine. The plot of X-Men Origins: Wolverine takes us further into the past. The first three movies examined the creation of the Phoenix as Dr. Jean Grey. We were also given a little background on Rogue.
For those of you wanting more on the Weapon X program, which was the main thread of X-2 you are going to get your answer. A little recap before we share plot information:
In X-2 Logan went on a search for an army base. Unfortunately he didn’t find much on his first exploration. On a return trip to find missing children a military base was uncovered. Logan was forced to remember his transition from a regenerative mutant to his current status with adamantium placed throughout his entire body. He even found out he was not the only person to undergo such treatment.
What we didn’t learn is why Logan was subjected to the trials. Remember Wolverine came to us without memory of his past. While he had snippets, the full picture was never divulged. In the latest movie coming out on May 1st 2009, we finally understand his tormented soul.
The story begins with Logan working within the Team X program. This is before the adamantium is added to his body. The time is 20 years before the first X-Men film. Logan encounters William Stryker who heads the Weapon X program. We already know the result of the encounter, but special little details were left out. It is common knowledge Logan lost a great love and that part of the reason for this loss lies squarely on the man known as Sabertooth.
We met Sabertooth in the first film when he tried to kidnap Rogue. The new film has a few surprises for us when it comes to who Sabertooth really is and why Wolverine considers him an archenemy. Sabertooth is known as Victor Creed when we first meet him in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The character will be played by Liev Schreiber. Schreiber takes a different take on the characters original costume remaining more human in his appearance, and without all the long hair.
Plot information has already been released regarding the reason for fights between Wolverine and Sabertooth. In the comics Sabertooth continually hunts Wolverine down to fight Wolverine on his birthday. We’ll just have to see what Hollywood’s take on the original plot will be. The new movie is going to bring new wolverine costumes forward for fans. Not only has Sabertooth been reborn, but the Blob, Silver Fox, Gambit, and Deadpool characters will all give us some foder for costumes.
