Are you looking for a different costume to wear to your next party? Maybe the recent release of PS 3 game Dragon Age of Origins will offer you some perspective on a costume. Children’s stories have always been ripe with tales of mythical creatures such as Dragons and this new video game brings the concept back.

Dragons are as old as time, having been prominent mythical creatures since the early man. The story of Beowulf was one of the first tales to bring dragons to the forefront and combine it with another type of mythical monster. Many movies and books based on the Middle Ages bring Dragons along for the ride. No matter how you picture Dragons they are always fearsome and powerful animals.

Dragon Age Origins presents a role playing game of Origin in which you will choose how you begin and where your story will move. You will begin with your character in the early ages establishing a clear background and learning skills until you are ready to move about Ferelden and other regions. You can be a sneaky peasant or a skilled knight where jealousy can be found at every turn. In the video game it is possible to be female or male in the roles. Your choices will determine the situations, storyline and conversations you might have with those you encounter.

From a costume perspective Dragon Age Origins brings about the Middle Ages Costumes we love. You can dress up in a Knight Costume or choose to be in a Peasant Costume to honor the video game or just to be a hit at your next costume party. Who knows the next time you have a video game gathering you might just see other Dragon Costumes running around your home!

The video game was just released Tuesday November 3rd, 2009 by EA Games and BioWare Corporation. So get ready for some Medieval Costume fun!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner; well okay it is November 26th, 2009. Still the holiday will be here before you know it and if you are not ready with a costume you might just miss out on all the fun. Who says you have to just dress up in costumes at Halloween. Sure most of the Thanksgiving costumes are worn by children for their school pageants, but that doesn’t mean you cannot have some fun too.

This year instead of the traditional holiday where you wear regular clothes consider spicing it up with some great Thanksgiving costumes. You have the pilgrim costume and the Native American costume, or you could go for something a little more fun.

We ran into a great Thanksgiving Turkey Costume for an infant. This costume is designed as a bunting in which the turkey body fits over the infant and leaves the head sticking out. For adults there are plenty of other ideas such as combing your favorite costume with a Thanksgiving component. If you want to go really grand consider a Mayflower costume. After all you have to get to the party somehow right?

Each year it is a tossup of what you will see on the streets during Halloween evening. This year I was able to view over a hundred costumes along a local street. During my escapades I was amazed, disappointed, and laughing. The disappointment came from the ten or so pirates I passed, mostly because they all looked alike. But it was the fun costumes that made me laugh and some were just plain amazing for the ingenuity they could offer.

My top favorite costume for the Halloween Trick or Treating experience was the ‘Staples Easy Button.’ The individual wearing this costume went all out. It was not just a button attached to a sweat suit, and unfortunately I did not have a camera. He created the easy button with cardboard, paint, and other materials. First the costume was square and on the front was the round red and white easy button, however it got even better. If the button was pushed little sensors would go off flashing. Now that is what I call genius!

The second “spooktacular” costume was a train. While it was not Thomas the Train it certainly had that kind of appeal. A wagon was taken in which they formed a train engine over. The engine was painted black and it had windows, smoke stack, and even train wheels. The Train Conductor was sitting in the back riding around as the child’s mom and dad moved the wagon along.

Among the other costumes were some witch costumes, spiderman costumes, and your typical pumpkin costumes. With the spectacular costumes I saw on Halloween it will be amazing to see what great ideas can be found for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

If you are from Colorado like I am you may be a little tired of hearing about the supposed publicity stunt created by the Heene family. A few days ago the news was alive with a boy missing supposedly on a homemade air balloon. Many went out to help search for the missing boy and one person even managed to tackle the balloon in hopes of rescuing the boy. However, Falcon Heene was never in the balloon instead he was in his family home up in the attic.

Little Falcon was on CNN with his family and he let it slip to the media that the event was for “show.” His father supposedly planned the entire event. Colorado news media has suggested that the DA will be bringing charges against the family for the danger they could have caused as well as brining out rescue teams that could have been needed elsewhere. Nothing has been set yet regarding the criminal charges, but one thing has come from this massive hunt for a missing boy.

Balloon Boy Costumes hit the shelves not long after the stunt. A Canadian company has worked tirelessly to create the Balloon Boy costume in time for Halloween a week from Saturday. According to news reports these costumes are certainly flying off the shelves. In fact there may be as many Harry Potter costumes as there are Balloon Boy Costumes as they are so popular.

Remakes of all things ’80s have reached a fever pitch. The latest on the block is a movie redux of the television show that brought Mr. T to primetime and into homes everywhere: The A-Team.

The ’80s original centered on four Vietnam veterans who were framed for a crime they didn’t commit. They take the show on the road to evade the military police, helping out people along the way as they attempt to clear their names. In the original, Mr. T played B.A. Baracus (”B.A.” for “Bad Attitude”), the A-Team’s mechanic and muscle. George Peppard was Hannibal, the group’s cigar chomping leader who “love it when a plan comes together.” Dwight Schultz was “Howling Mad” Murdoch, the team’s resident loose cannon and Dirk Benedict was Templeton “Faceman” Peck, the group’s prettyboy and master of disguise.

While you gotta pity the fool that steps into Mr. T’s shoes, UFC fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson just may have the mettle, muscle, and humor to bring it to the role of B.A. Baracus. (Anyone doubting Rampage’s sense of humor has to see this past week’s episode of Ultimate Fighter 10.) Rounding out the cast is Liam Neeson as grey-haired Hannibal, Bradley Cooper as Faceman, and Sharlto Copely as Murdoch. Jessica Biel is also part of the cast, although what role she is playing has yet to be confirmed.

The plot sounds about the same as the original series, the only difference being the substitution of the characters being veterans of the first Gulf War as opposed to the Vietnam war. Hopefully, the A-Team van will be a part of the big screen adaptation, too! (Please don’t let Hannibal drive an SUV. Please.) The scheduled release date for the new A-Team is June 11, 2010.

Get a jump on putting together your A-Team costumes for next year. Grab a bunch of gold chains and a mohawk wig (try the Mr. Hammer version!) to pull together your own “Bad Attitude.” Or, for a John “Hannibal” Smith costume try a fake cigar, a short grey men’s wig, and a pair of black leather gloves. Don’t you just love it when a costume comes together?!

Remake madness is afoot yet again, with Hollywood greenlighting scripts not just for classic horror remakes, but also classic fantasy film remakes. Set for a wide release on March 26, 2010, Clash of the Titans has been given a makeover. The 1981 starred Harry Hamlin (formerly of L.A. Law and now better known as Mr. Lisa Rinna) as the hero Perseus, son of Zeus. The all-star cast included Laurence Olivier as Zeus and a dazzling array of stop-motion monsters by special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen.

Director Louis Leterrier’s remake of Clash of the Titans stars Sam Worthington (Terminator: Salvation’s reluctant human/droid hybrid, Marcus as the hero Perseus and Liam Neeson as Zeus, King of the Gods. A new addition of Hercules as a main player with Ralph Fiennes (no stranger to fantasy films himself as Harry Potter’s arch-nemesis Voldemort) cast in the role of Hades, Lord of the Underworld.

The new version of Clash of the Titans’s description sounds as if it takes a detour from the legend of Perseus from classic mythology. In the film, Perseus’ family is killed by the evil Hades who plans to unleash his domain on Earth and usurp power from Zeus. Perseus attempts to avenge his family and rallies a group of heroes and gods to combat monsters and thwart Hades’ attempts to rule the world.

Although a trailer has yet to be released, there are some still photos floating around of scenes from the film:

Sam Worthington as Perseus with an as-yet-to-be-named creature.

Liam Neeson as Zeus in golden armor

Perseus with his shield of the gods. Speculation is that it’s Medusa’s head in the bag!

Perseus encounters the Graae, the Three Blind Witch Sisters.

Although no photos of the infamous Medusa have surfaced, it has been confirmed that the serpentine she-demon will be in the film. Rumor has it that the design for this creature is something spectacular. Although the plot of Titans seems to have deviated from the original tale, die-hard classics fans would be up in arms with the omission of a key part of the story of Perseus.

As soon as a trailer comes out, we’ll be sure to link to it! In the meantime, start planning your own Grecian themed costumes from a battle-armor bedecked warrior to Zeus himself!

Coming out on October 23, 2009 is a 3-D computer animated film based on this hero. Imagi Animation

Studios, the same that worked on TMNT will be providing the look and graphics of Astro Boy. The film has a top cast lending their voices to the characters including Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane, and Kristen Bell. The plot will remain close to the original story, while giving us background on the hero. Astro Boy is going to be a newly created robot by Dr. Tenma. The good doctor feels he must replace his son that he lost. The robot unfortunately is unable to live up to the lost boy’s image. He leaves home and joins a rowdy group of kids where he meets Cora.

At this point he also finds himself in the world of robot gladiators. Eventually he returns home to find the evil president is a renegade giant robot who is trying to take over Metro City. It is up to our hero to save the day.

Like Superman costumes or Spiderman costumes, Astroboy Costumes will definitely be popular. A boy hero is one that we cannot resist. It doesn’t matter if it is Batman costumes or a robot hero like Astro Boy. The Astro Boy costume will certainly offer a different look for a hero this year. Much of his costume is red gloves and shoes with black pants. However, you can also opt for the blue shirt to go with the costume. The hair will be reminiscent of the 50’s, but nonetheless perfect for the hero costume.

A number of immigrant rights advocates are up in arms over the illegal alien costumes that have appeared on the costume scene in the past year or so and many stores like Target.com have reacted by pulling the products from their websites.

Political satire and popular culture are a major source of costumes, and with the issue of illegal immigrants, or “illegal aliens” as they’re commonly referred to has certainly been at the forefront since the last presidential election. It was a major campaign issue.

The alien mask and orange jumpsuit isn’t the only illegal alien costume on the scene. There are others that portray a stereotype of a Mexican with a thick bushy moustache on the alien’s face.

This certainly isn’t the first costume that has raised the hackles of ethnic groups. Virtually every ethnic stereotype has been poked fun of with the satire of a halloween costume, either homemade or sold commercially.

Are these offensive? Certainly to some, but maybe we all need to just lighten up a little.

We posed the question to our own reader community in a poll that’s going on right now. You can participate in the poll and see the results below. Though after several hundred participants, it seems to be settling down in only 1 in 10 participants who think that the illegal alien costume is offensive.

Everyone has their own idea of what the Tooth Fairy looks like. Either small and spritely, or tall and stately, a winged, tutu-wearing woman who might look a tad like Glinda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. Others might see the Tooth Fairy as a burly, cross-dressing dude in a pink and purple tutu with sparkly fairy wings. (Hey! It’s the 21st century! Why not!?)

Regardless of how you view the Tooth Fairy she or he traditionally deposits a quarter (or however much a tooth is worth now due to the cost of inflation) beneath the pillow of children who have lost a tooth. The kid puts their tooth under their pillow, and during the night, the Tooth Fairy swaps out the teeth in exchange for cash and prizes. Not a bad deal! (Too bad they don’t do that for adults!)

Due in theatres January 22, 2010, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson steps into the role of the Tooth Fairy. Banish any notion of frilly tutus. While he will have wings, The Rock’s version of the Tooth Fairy sports a much more masculine get up, as evidenced by the movie poster for the flick, although there are a few scenes with him sporting more traditional Tooth Fairy garb. The film’s premise focuses on a cocky minor-league hockey player who is famous for knocking out the teeth of opponents. When he gets busted by the REAL Tooth Fairy (Julie Andrews) for killing dreams, he is enrolled in a crash course in Tooth Fairy school — complete with wings and pastel blue tights!

Check out the trailer here.

Consider dressing as a traditional Tooth Fairy, or the Rock’s more sporty version, complete with knee pads and elbow pads for something unexpected!

With just a little time left before Halloween, you might be scrambling for ideas. A new game by Nintendo has fired out an idea for us. Mario and Sonic have come together in a new video game called “Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.” This is bringing together two of the most beloved characters from video games together. They have to join forces in order to win. It is the first time Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog have ever appeared in a game together.

The video game is being released on Wii and the Nintendo DS. Not only are these two title characters in the games, but Luigi, Knuckles, Yoshi, Tails, and more will be part of the new game. Your favorite character can race against others at the 100m track, high jump or even swim water. Numerous games from the Olympic Summer Games will be part of this fascinating video entertainment.

The game is complete with Olympic sports and events, as well as venues. Wherever the Olympics have been you too can be for archery, skeet shooting, table tennis and gymnastics. There are plenty of game modes with Mario and Sonic to go through the circuit, take a challenge, or go into mission mode. As you play the game you will be able to unlock dream events with power ups and much more.

You have the choice of being on Team Mario or Team Sonic when you play this game. So gear up and get ready. The new game has just lent us new looks for Mario costume and Sonic costume options. Furthermore it brings back some of our favs like the Luigi costume for winning the gold in this Olympics! Who knows maybe next year Mario will need a figure skating costume!
