superman movie
This past week, noted film actor David Carradine passed away in Bangkok at the age of 72 while filming While the circumstances surrounding Carradine’s death are still unknown, the star’s passing was certainly tragic.

A member of the famed Carradine family of actors, his father was John Carradine who starred in many films, horror movies, and as also Herman Munster’s boss, mortuary owner Mr. Gateman on The Munsters. His brothers included Keith, Robert, and Bruce Carradine.

Throughout his career, David Carradine was known for playing a wide variety of roles. The role that brought him the most fame, however, was as Kwai Chang Kane (known as “Grasshopper”) on the ’70s television series, Kung Fu.

Octo-Mom vs. Kate Gosselin! Mrrowr! Get catty with costumes!

superman movie
And out come the claws! In a battle for tabloid cover for supremacy, ferociously fertile matriarchs, Nadya Suleman (AKA – Octomom) and Kate Gosselin of John and Kate Plus Eight have been taking pot shots at one another. Earlier in the year, Kate Gosselin remarked how Octomom has no clue what she’s in for with raising eight kids (in addition to the other six Suleman had before popping out the fabled octet) and accused her of seeking attention. In return, Suleman has pretty much returned the fire, noting that Gosselin was the pot calling the kettle black.

Additionally, they’ve both criticized one another for their plastic surgeries — Octomom’s Angelina Jolie-fication and Kate’s obvious tummy tuck enabling her to prance around in a bikini with a new, higher belly button.

Eminem piles on the costumes for new video

Eminem video - We Made You
Guess who’s back? Back again. Eminem just released his latest album, Relapse this month along with his new single, “We Made You.”

While Eminem has always been something of a colorful character, Marshall Mathers has never been a stranger to playing dress up in his videos to get into additional characters. This time around, it’s no different. In spite of having been away from the music industry for five years, his return to rap hasn’t seen him changed, besides having sobered up.

His rhymes are still as catchy, comical, and controversial as ever on Relapse and his sense of parodying popular culture is still finely tuned. As evidenced by the video for “We Made You”, Eminem lampoons nearly any celebrity in the public eye you can think of, playing them himself or with other actors in the video costumed as the celebrities they’re poking fun at. (Dr. Dre even dresses up as Captain Kirk!)

Sesame Street Counts to 40!!

Technically Sesame Street is in its 39th season, but the show began on November 10th, 2009, which means it will soon be 40 years old. Sesame Street is perhaps the oldest running children’s show in America. The reason for its popularity simply comes down to education made fun.

Sesame Street is set on the fictional Sesame Street in New York, New York. The show began using just puppets, live actors and a stage with fake buildings. Today the show is animated with puppets and of course the live actors. Children are able to learn about letters, words, math, geometry, problem solving and much more. Real world scenarios are often discussed such as death, divorce, and pregnancy. Human emotions are also explored on the show.

Dora turns Teen … Oh, the costume possibilities!

Dora the Explorer: Original Style
Surely, you’ve heard that Dora the Explorer has been given a makeover. In an effort to appeal to a different demographic beyond the young children who love the plucky little girl’s geography-hopping adventures, Nickelodeon is creating a spin-off series with Dora as a tween.

Some parents are up in arms about Dora trading in her trademark bob and backpack for lipgloss and fashion. The alarms raised about “tween Dora” concern whether or not she will “dress appropriately” and if she will forsake her adventures to new places for adventures at the mall. On the flipside, other parents are thrilled that their children who grew up with Dora and are becoming “tweens” themselves, can still have a positive young role model to watch on television. Dora will still be bilingual, but she — like her audience — is growing up.

Sesame Street turns 40

Sesame Street Turns 40

In 1969, Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrissette teamed with a young puppeteer named Jim Henson to create a television show geared towards educating children but was still entertaining enough for parents to enjoy alongside their kids. 40 years later, that very show, Sesame Street, is still growing strong.

Unique in its approach, the PBS mainstay combined live-action adults and kids interacting with colorful puppets who inhabited the urban melting pot neighborhood of Sesame Street. Not only did kids learn letters, numbers, and words, they also picked up valueable social skills before heading off to kindergarten and beyond. People from all different ethnicities, religions, and walks of life interacted with kids and puppets, showing just how similar everyone really is. Chances are, kids learned how to deal with insults (thanks to the curmugeonly Oscar the Grouch), friendship from best pals Ernie and Bert, and even attempting to understand death with the passing of beloved store owner, Mr. Hooper.

Network Holiday Specials Kick Off with Rudolph

rudolph
With some of the more painful holiday traditions like Black Friday and the inevitable cornucopia of leftover turkey dishes that continue into December, some of the sweeter things about the holiday season are rearing their red noses.

Wednesday at 8PM, CBS affiliates will be airing the stop-motion animation classic, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” The Rankin-Bass special first aired 1964 and has been a fond, family tradition. Based on the popular Christmas carol, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” the story follows Rudolph from outcast reindeer from Santa’s sleigh team to finding acceptance alongside his friend Hermey the Elf (who would rather be a dentist than make toys in Santa’s workshop) and on the Island of Misfit Toys.

Tune in for the first (and arguably one of the best) of many holiday specials to take the airways by snow-storm this season! Gain some inspiration for some fun holiday costumes for a parade or holiday pageant. Head on over to our “How To” section to see how to make a Yukon Cornelius costume inspired by one of the main characters in Rudolph… Or pick up your own Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer or Elf costume!

Among the featured floats, balloons, and performers are Dora the Explorer, the Harajuku Girls. Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, and many more! Miley Cyrus will also be on hand for the festivities, although it’s unknown whether or not she’ll be in full Hannah Montana mode.
