Land of the Free Costumes

I found this really neat gallery of sci-fi related costume pictures from photographer Steve Schofield over the week end.

It features people dressed up in costumes, such as Star Wars and Star Trek, but in normal life context, like at their home or at the mall.

Really nice work and worth a look. You can visit the gallery here.

Couple sued by Disney over Tigger & Eyeore Resemblance?

“LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) — A Clermont couple got a million dollar surprise when they received a lawsuit from Walt Disney World recently.

David and Marisol Chaveco own a party business and bought two costumes that happen to resemble two Disney characters. One of the costumes is an orange tiger that looks a lot like Tigger. The other costume is a blue donkey that resembles Eyeore.

About a month after the couple advertised the availability of the characters for parties they opened the mail to find the lawsuit.

Someone stole Skato!

You must be probably like “huh…WHAT?!” Yeah i know, i was the same way when i learned that someone had stolen Skato! :)

As reported by mycentraljersey.com: “A large, light green dinosaur costume was stolen from United Skates of America, located in the Woodbridge Community Center. The “Skato” costume, valued at about $3,000, was removed from a rear hallway where it is stored, police said. “

I am not really sure who Skato is or what he represents, all i could find was this “kato is Barney on skates”…ok dok! If anybody can let us know who Skato is and what he does other than skating, that would be great. He looks like a nice fellow…

This Week’s Recap: When costumes meet the Law

I have read some really weird news last week I wanted to circle back on, looks like costumes are become a lot more mainstream in the legal system :)

First, “Locals Dressed in Costumes Show Up To Court” (read more)

“It was an uncommon sight outside of Lackawana City Court Tuesday morning as some locals showed up dressed in animal costumes. They held signs and said they support Fred Grasso, the animal control officer being charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty, and that they believe he didn’t do it. “Fred is a good, kind gentleman,” one supporter said. “He looks out for everyone in the neighborhood here, we all love him, so we’re helping him out here.”…”

Ok boys, this was a nice creative way to show your support in a Winnie the Pooh and Tiger costumes, not sure if it had an impact inside the court room though.

Custom plane paint matching Tron costume!

This is pretty funny… A guy name “Tron Guy” (see how he made his TRON costume) has purchased a plane with a custom paint to match his favorite costume… pretty cool huh?

But could that become a trend?

I’d laugh pretty hard if I saw a car driving down the street with a custom “Papa Smurf” custom paint :)

Star Wars is back with a new movie!

clone wars game
Just when you thought it was safe… Wait, wrong film franchise.  This summer, Star Wars goes where the saga has not gone before (to mix another sci-fi metaphor), into an animated feature film hitting theatres on August 15, 2008.  “The Clone Wars” occupies the space between Episodes II and III of the new Star Wars trilogy and features all of the main characters in pixilated form, such as Anakin Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and even Jabba the Hutt.  Click here to check out the trailer for “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

Rabid Star Wars fans will be happy to know that they’ll be able to get even more of a Force Fix on a weekly basis with a new Star Wars television series in the works.  The television series will focus on lesser-known characters in the Star Wars cannon instead of the Skywalkers, Solos, and other familiar faces.  This will make for a great opportunity to tell new stories without already-established outcomes that fans are well-educated on.  New characters will bring an air of suspense to the Star Wars saga and paint the extended universe in a richer, and wider scope.  Check here for more details on this new series.
