Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans tops Box Office

Underworld 3 Rona Mitra
With the box office results pouring in from this weekend, Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans has come in at number one, grossing $7.9 million. Coming in at #2 is the Kevin James Comedy, Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Check out the trailer for Underworld here.

Rise of the Lycans is the third film in the ongoing Underworld franchise and is a prequel of sorts, showing how the vampires came to war with their former-servants, the Lycan werewolves. With the popularity of the film franchise solidified, perhaps we can expect some good Underworld costumes to hit the market sometime soon? So far, only a movie-quality Underworld Selene cosplay costume is available, based off of Kate Beckinsdale’s vampire warrioress. (Actually, Kate Beckinsdale isn’t in this third installment. Go figure!)

Repo!: The Genetic Opera – DVD and costumes!

The Genetic Opera
Touted as the 21st century equivalent to the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Repo!: The Genetic Opera is the latest goth-tinged movie musical to develop a huge cult following. Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (the man behind the Saw film franchise), Repo is set in the not-so-distant future with the world overtaken by organ failure on a massive level, as well as recreational plastic surgery. A mega corporation helmed by the wealthy and corrupt Rotti Largo “solves” this problem by replacing organs with persons being able to pay “on time” for them. The stipulation is, if they miss a payment, the Genetic Repo Men come to repossess the organs. Delinquent debters are put on display in a nightly showcase known as “the Genetic Opera.”

Done entirely in musical format, the plot is complicated by intrigue with a sick little girl named Shilo Wallace whose father is (unbeknownst to her) a Repo Man in the service of Largo and his family of even more corrupt heirs. With a completely original score blending opera with industrial rock, the film also brings together actors from the worlds of Broadway and cult-camp film. Among the cast are noted singers Sarah Brightman and Paul Sorvino as well as Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Bill Mosely (Devil’s Rejects), and Paris Hilton. (Yes. THAT Paris Hilton.) Check out a trailer for the film here.

Jolly Old St Crook Mask
If you’re like me, you’re already burnt out on all this holiday cheer. It’s not even Thanksgiving yet, and already, radio stations have been “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” non-stop. This onslaught of seasonal sap started even before Halloween with Christmas items stacked on shelves before all of the trick or treat goodies were handed out!

If the Christmas spirit’s got you down, you may not be able to take a blowtorch to Frosty the Snowman (or better yet, pitch a Yule Log at him, for a festive touch!), but you can Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas with these few survival tips:

Halloween + Christmas: More Boo and Bah Humbug for your Buck

Halloween hasn’t even reared its pumpkin head yet and already you’re probably seeing Christmas items and decorations right next to fright masks and Halloween candy. In these turbulent economic times, think about doubling up on some fun Halloween items that could merit extra mileage during during the holiday season. For example, get in touch with your goth side and sport a “Nightmare Before Christmas” Wreath of Jack Skellington skull heads that will add a touch of personality to your door through both seasons!

For a last-minute Halloween costume or films to show at your party, look to such classic (and not-so classic) films like “Nightmare Before Christmas”; the campy comedy-horror ’80s flick “Silent Night, Deadly Night” with an axe murdering Santa Claus who’s ho-ho-homicidal! (Check out our How To section for how to make your own Psycho Santa costume based on this film!); or “Santa Slay” featuring former professional wrestler Goldberg as a jacked, ripped, and demonic Santa who makes with all sorts of comedic chaos.

Saw V – Just in time for Halloween!

Saw V - Jigsaw mask

It’s Halloween, which means it’s time for yet another installment of Saw. This time around in Saw V, although the original Jigsaw is gone, he’s certainly not forgotten. Hoffman, the forensics expert from the past few films in the franchise, has been selected to carry on John Kramer’s work. And it won’t be pretty!

Saw V promises to tie up a lot of loose ends in terms of storyline. It will also feature Hoffman tying up loose ends to remove evidence of his link to Jigsaw. Tobin Bell (the original Jigsaw) will still appear in the film although his character is definitely dead. Who knows how this will turn out. All you can count on is a lot of innovative gore that the series is known for.

Editable body parts… made of bread!

edible body parts
Ok, this has to end up on your Halloween party table, one way of the other! What if you would give your friends body parts to eat this Halloween? Well, not real ones, but made of bread.

Originally created by a Thailand Artist Kittiwat Unarrom, come on, this idea could easily become a business of its own here in the US! This is an extraordinary idea and I cannot believe we haven’t see this at the local Stop n Shop or Costco yet during Halloween… any takers?

Watch this video, it’s freaky, but really amazing:
