The Simpsons is perhaps the most popular animated television show to hit primetime. The show was created by Matt Groening. At first The Simpsons were little shorts on the Tracey Ullman Show. They first appeared in 1987. The small sketches were such a hit that in 1988 Fox picked up the show for a series to be released for the 1989 season. Since then The Simpsons have been warming households each week.
This year for Halloween if you want to be one of The Simpsons characters you certainly have plenty of options. There are Bart Simpson costumes, Homer costumes, even Snowball II costumes. But for a truly great costume consider Marge Simpson costumes.

Jonah Hex is a double-whammy in terms of films coming out in 2010. Not only is it a comic book-related film (the Jonah Hex character’s book was relaunched several years ago on DC’s non-superhero, more adult-themed Vertigo line), but it also stars current horror/comic book it-girl, Megan Fox.
The film centers on a post-Civil War, Wild West era disfigured bounty hunter by the name of Jonah Hex. The cult classic comic book title character is portrayed by Josh Brolin in the film. Megan Fox portrays a saloon girl/prostitute who’s quite handy with a gun that aids Hex in his missions.

A new, two-minute teaser trailer has been revealed for the brand new reboot of the
Nightmare on Elm Street horror franchise. The trailer gives a glimpse of Oscar-nominee Jackie Earle Haley slipping into the iconic striped sweater and razor glove of the demonic Freddy Krueger. Most recently, Haley portrayed Rorschach in the film adaptation of Watchmen. Whether he can make the same impact re-interpreting a well-known character remains to be seen. Eager fright fans will be able to see for themselves how this latest in a long line of classic, ’80s horror remakes pans out when the new
Nightmare on Elm Street hits theatres on April 30, 2010.
As evidenced by the trailer, you can count on lots of action and lots of explosions, particularly since Michael Bay (Transformers) is a producer. Plus, you get to see a pre-fricassee Freddy as Springfield’s least favorite son/child killer tries to outrun the angry vigilante mob of parents. It makes his post-burn transformation all the more startling.

Harry Potter fans have something to look forward to, possibly as early Spring 2010. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, new Harry Potter theme park, will find its home at the Universal resort and theme park in Orlando, FL. Orlando and Universal receive thousands of yearly visitors from across the pond, making this a great spot for American, British, and European fans of the Harry Potter books to congregate.
The theme park is a massive undertaking and painstaking details and planning have gone into its production. Of course, Harry Potter’s creator, author J.K. Rowling has given the project her stamp of approval. This sprawling 20-acre park site attempts to recreate some of the Potter-verse’s most memorable locales. Shops and eateries like Olivander’s wand shoppe (where it has been confirmed that visitors can purchase their very own souvenir wands) and Honeyduke’s candy emporium are proposed, as are pub-style restaurants such as The Three Broomsticks which will serve butterbeer and traditional British pub fare to hungry visitors. A replica of Hogwarts Castle is also supposed to be on premises, as well as countless other favorite places from the series.

Oktoberfest is a German holiday traditionally held from late September to early October. The festival is sixteen days long with plenty of beer, food, and live entertainment. The largest festival in the world is held in Munich, Germany. You can expect chicken, roast pork, knuckle of pork, grilled fish, sausages, pretzels, potato or bread dumplings, cheese noodles, and potato pancakes to be on the menu at any Oktoberfest.
In the United States many cities and small towns host their own festivals in honor of the German heritage of the United States. The original Oktoberfest began in the 1800’s in honor of Prince Ludwig marrying Princess Therese of Saxe- Hildburghausen. A horse race was organized for the event with the marriage on October 12th 1810 and the race on October 17th. Eventually the festival became less about the marriage of two people and more of a celebration of culture.
