Television commercials are going to great lengths to create identifiable characters to help sell their products, making viewers/consumers feel comfortable with their product pitchers. For the first time since the ’80s where you had such recognizable commercial characters like Mr. Whipple (the “Don’t Squeeze the Charmin” guy), Madge the Palmolive lady, Budweiser non-spokesdog Spuds Mackenzie, and Dunkin’ Donuts “Time to Make the Donuts” guy, television commercials have some very familiar faces.
Currently, several commercial characters are just as widely recognized as actors on the television shows that they advertise with. Insurance companies lead the pack with the most well-known characters, including the ever-so-polite Geico Gecko, the misunderstood Cavemen, and of course, Flo the Progressive Insurance Peddler, with her never-ending optimism!

Phil Spector may be headed to jail, but will he be allowed to take his awesome collection of wigs with him?
The 69-year-old music mogul best known for his “Wall of Sound” production technique he used working with the likes of the Righteous Brothers (with whom he penned “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”), Ike and Tina Turner, and various girl groups like The Ronettes, has been convicted of second degree murder. Spector was given 19 years to life in prison after an initial mistrial regarding the 2003 death of actress Lana Clarkson who was found dead at a party in Spector’s home, the victim of a gunshot wound to the head.
While Phil Spector’s fate has been determined, what will happen to his fabulous collection of wigs that appeared upon his head during the course of his trial? Chances are, you may not be able to get your hands on one of these (unless they may be auctioned off for charity… Who knows? Stranger things have happened!), but you can get your mitts on some synthetic substitutes if the urge strikes you to concoct your very own Phil Spector costume in time for Halloween or any celebrity-themed costume party.

And out come the claws! In a battle for tabloid cover for supremacy, ferociously fertile matriarchs, Nadya Suleman (AKA – Octomom) and Kate Gosselin of
John and Kate Plus Eight have been taking pot shots at one another. Earlier in the year, Kate Gosselin remarked how Octomom has no clue what she’s in for with raising eight kids (in addition to the other six Suleman had before popping out the fabled octet) and accused her of seeking attention. In return, Suleman has pretty much returned the fire, noting that Gosselin was the pot calling the kettle black.
Additionally, they’ve both criticized one another for their plastic surgeries — Octomom’s Angelina Jolie-fication and Kate’s obvious tummy tuck enabling her to prance around in a bikini with a new, higher belly button.

Guess who’s back? Back again. Eminem just released his latest album,
Relapse this month along with his new single, “We Made You.”
While Eminem has always been something of a colorful character, Marshall Mathers has never been a stranger to playing dress up in his videos to get into additional characters. This time around, it’s no different. In spite of having been away from the music industry for five years, his return to rap hasn’t seen him changed, besides having sobered up.
His rhymes are still as catchy, comical, and controversial as ever on Relapse and his sense of parodying popular culture is still finely tuned. As evidenced by the video for “We Made You”, Eminem lampoons nearly any celebrity in the public eye you can think of, playing them himself or with other actors in the video costumed as the celebrities they’re poking fun at. (Dr. Dre even dresses up as Captain Kirk!)

The runes have already been cast and the new Lord of Asgard is….Chris Hemsworth?
You may not know the name, but any one who’s seen the new Star Trek movie will recognize Hemsworth as Captain George Kirk the doomed father of Captain James T. Kirk. The Australian actor may not be the most muscular guy around, but his performance in the sci-fi flick was memorable. We’ll see how that translates to his performance as a Norse god of thunder.
Additionally, an unknown actor has also been cast in role of Thor’s arch-nemesis and fellow Asgardian, Loki, god of chaos. Tom Hiddleston has been awarded the part of the mischevious Loki. Hiddleston has won numerous awards and is a graduate of Britain’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. While American audiences may not know him, he comes highly recommended.
