Prince of Persia joins the ranks of video games like Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, and many others to make the jump from the polygonal realm to that of a live-action theatrical film. The popular game has been made into a new feature film called Prince of Persia: Sands of Time starring Jake Gyllenhaal in the title role.

The story follows the original game with a young street urchin in ancient Persia adopted by the Sultan himself for a show of bravery. The Sultan declares the youth, Dastan, his heir. After a instrument of the gods called “The Sands of Time” falls into the hands of an evil nobleman (played by Academy Award Winner, Ben Kingsley), Nizam, Dastan has to recover the object and restore order to the kingdom. Additionally, there’s a princess and a creepy, leperous looking character that skulks in the shadows on the trailer.

A trailer for the film can be viewed here. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is scheduled for a May 28, 2010 release in the United States.

While no officially licensed Prince of Persia costumes are available just yet, a number of items are available to get the jump on your crafting your own costume. Try picking up a brown chin length wig in a touseled, yet masculine style. Then go for a classic breastplate of armor in a silver or goldtone style with gauntlets and wristlets to wear along with your costume. Of course, you will also need a scimitar — the traditional curved sword favored by ancient Middle Eastern warriors. A <a href="http://www.costumzee.com/tag/bald+cap/?search=1bald cap, a set of black <a "href=http://www.costumzee.com/tag/sultan/?search=1">Sultan robes and a long, thin mustache and goatee to create a Nizam/evil nobleman costume of your own… Until Disney markets official costumes for the film!

A new, two-minute teaser trailer has been revealed for the brand new reboot of the Nightmare on Elm Street horror franchise. The trailer gives a glimpse of Oscar-nominee Jackie Earle Haley slipping into the iconic striped sweater and razor glove of the demonic Freddy Krueger. Most recently, Haley portrayed Rorschach in the film adaptation of Watchmen. Whether he can make the same impact re-interpreting a well-known character remains to be seen. Eager fright fans will be able to see for themselves how this latest in a long line of classic, ’80s horror remakes pans out when the new Nightmare on Elm Street hits theatres on April 30, 2010.

As evidenced by the trailer, you can count on lots of action and lots of explosions, particularly since Michael Bay (Transformers) is a producer. Plus, you get to see a pre-fricassee Freddy as Springfield’s least favorite son/child killer tries to outrun the angry vigilante mob of parents. It makes his post-burn transformation all the more startling.

See for yourself and check out the new trailer here:
http://www.nightmareonelmstreet.com/

A screen capture (lightened up for easier viewing of Freddy’s new look) from the trailer shows a more realistic face of Krueger’s disfiguring burns than the ones previously sported by Robert Englund under the prosthetic makeup:

While no new Freddy Krueger masks are available this Halloween for the Jackie Earle Haley-style makeup, old school versions of this horror favorite based on Robert Englund’s original interpretation are available. Put on Freddy’s fedora and glove for yourself and realize the stuff bad dreams are made of! Ladies can even get in on the act with a Female Freddy costume with a striped sweater dress, fedora, and glove.

Patrick Swayze will be remembered most for his roles in Dirty Dancing and Ghost. His talent not only on the screen, but also on the dance floor gave him the perfect abilities to hold the role of Johnny Castle in the film Dirty Dancing. Swayze passed away on September 14th, 2009 after a difficult fight with cancer. However, he worked up until the end with an A&E show. People magazine named Swayze as the sexiest man alive in 1991. He was born in Houston, Texas to a dance instructor and choreographer. In 1972 he moved to New York City to finish his formal dance training.

The first break Patrick Swayze received was as a dancer for the Disney on Parade and then with a part in the Broadway production of Grease. He appeared in the film Skatetown USA and on TV in MASH before getting a small appearance on The Renegades. For the next few years he had roles in The Outsiders, Red Dawn and Youngblood before a television role in the miniseries North and South.

The breakthrough role as Johnny Castle in 1987’s Dirty Dancing opened doors for Swayze. It was an unlikely chance since the film was low budget and it was intended for one weekend in the theater before moving to video. It was always considered a surprise hit by studios and indeed no one thought it would gross over $300 million during the production stage.

For those who want to honor the great actor as well as find the perfect couples costume for Halloween this year look to Johnny Castle and Frances “Baby” Houseman costumes. These Dirty Dancing costumes will most likely appear at several costume parties in the next month, not only as a tribute to a great star lost, but also because of the following the movie has always had.

Who would have thought a weekend of jumping around in the rain and mud on a farm and shrugging off all conventions of personal hygiene would be celebrated 40 years later? Four decades after thousands of hippies descended upon Max Yasger’s 600-acre farm in New York for what was heralded as a three-day Aquarian Exposition of peace, love, and music Woodstock still captures the imagination of several generations. Woodstock’s legacy still lives on with the numerous summer music festivals that are still popular concert-going experiences for fans of all musical genres.

Although the sounds and faces have changed, there’s something almost immortal about the performers (many of whom are no longer performing — or living, for that matter) who played at Woodstock. Bands like the Jefferson Airplane; Joni Mitchell; Joe Cocker; and Crosby Stills Nash and Young are renowned as legends, occassionally releasing albums and performing to live audiences. Others who have since passed on such as Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin have influenced thousands of musicians with their distinct sound and even more distinctive look.

Pay homage to Woodstock’s performers and attendees with costumes straight out of the Summer of Love. Dress as a hippie with long hair wigs and fringed faux suede vests. Ladies can opt for airy, cotton dresses in an ankle length style with long wigs and feathered jewelry for an Earthy look.

Or, dress as some of the legendary performers of Woodstock. Gents can find themselves in a “Purple Haze” with an afro wig and Jimi Hendrix costume with a hat and bellbottoms. Don’t forget a guitar, preferably one with a fire/flame motif to (safely) emulate Jimi’s flaming guitar solo, part of the mythos that cemented the brilliant, electric guitarist’s legacy.

Women may want to dress as the late, great Janis Joplin with a pair of Janis glasses with tinted lenses and round frames. Put on a long, straggly wig of brown hair and an outrageous costume with bellbottoms and a ton of jewelry to capture the essense of this gritty singer. Rock on!

The episode in which goofball Charlie pens a rock opera based on his characters of “The Dayman” and “The Nightman” starring his friends has now inspired the cast of the FX network comedy to take the show on the road, performing the musical episode live.

Coinciding with the show’s fifth season premiere on Thursday September 17th, 2009, “The Nightman Cometh” will be playing at Philadelphia’s Tower Theatre. While no previews of the show have been given to the public, the episode enough is incentive enough for fans of the series to check out the musical. The prospect of hearing the show’s cast including Philadelphia native, Rob McElhenny, who plays Mac (and who is also one of the show’s creators and writers), his real-life wife and co-star Caitlyn Olson who plays Sweet Dee, and Danny DeVito among others sing such songs as “You Gotta Pay the Troll Toll” and “Day Man” and its reprise is enough to pry fans away from their television sets.

If the mood strikes, dress up for the occassion and head to the theatre as some of your favorite characters from the musical episode! Ladies can dress as Dee’s character of The Princess Waitress and wear a pink Disney Princess Aurora costume as worn by the Sleeping Beauty character. Or, get creative and check out some of DIY tutorials and learn How to Make a Nightman Costume and How to Make a Dayman costume.

Tickets go on sale at 10AM on Friday August 7th, 2009 on Livenation.com for all six shows. Snap ‘em up for what’s sure to be a fun-filled show!

The ladies love the three brothers, Joe, Nick and Kevin…. And Joe, Nick, and Kevin love costumes! The wholesome threesome’s touring show features costume theme nights backstage before each event. So far, the three brothers have cooked up Pirate Night, among other themes, as well.

Additionally, the Jo-Bros have taken to dressing up in quirky costumes during soundcheck prior to the shows. Here are a few costumes that the lads have worn and how you can replicate these looks:

Here, the boys decided to go as another famous trio, the Three Little Pigs:

Joe Jonas doesn’t smuggle grapes, he just dresses up as a whole bunch! (Actual story: Tourmate, Jordin Sparks initially was afraid of what she was getting into when Nick and Kevin told her to go over and feel Joe’s grapes… Jordin was ready to bail until she saw Joe wearing this crazy costume and instantly got a huge laugh out of it.

Food items are popular with the Jo-Bros, as evidenced by these quirky Ketchup and Mustard bottle costumes:

And last but not least, is this mascot-style moose costume!

While we’re not sure what the Jonas Brothers will dress up as next, it’s plain to see the boys have always been fans of quirky costumes, as evidenced by this vintage picture of them dressed up:

The San Diego Comic-Con once again saw devotees of all fandoms converge upon the West coast convention with cameras, comics, and costumes in-tow. For four days, July 22-26, SDCC boasts stars and exclusive unveilings of movies and posters for upcoming films that fans are on pins and needles waiting to sneek a peek at.

Among some of the luminaries in attendence, signing autographs and speaking at fan Q&A panels about their upcoming projects included Johnny Depp, Seth Rogen, Megan Fox, and Robert Downey, Jr.

Celebs aren’t the only reason fans turn out. Artists and comic book writers are also on hand, signing limited edition prints and items. Some of the panel discussions at SDCC 2009 included “How to get a job in the video game industry,” a Writer’s Guild panel on the changing face of animation and its PG-13 status (Seth McFarlane also put in an appearance talking about the behind-the-scenes fun on the set of the Family Guy ), and symposiums a-plenty! Additionally, action figure enthusiasts can get their mitts on limited-edition toys and t-shirts.

Not limited to just these attractions, the booths and displays at SDCC with costumes and artifacts from films like Star Wars and art inspired by cult films.

And of course, there are the costumes! Fans turn out in droves and part of the fun is playing dress-up in homemade, store-bought costumes that range from good, bad, and plain ugly. Still, it’s all in good fun and you’d be surprised at how good — or even imaginative — some of these SDCC fan costumes are! Here’s a random sampling of some of the more unique ones:

Although Michael Jackson has passed on to that great concert hall in the sky, fortunately, another multi-talented musician/singer/performer is still with us in Prince. With 2009 marking the 25th anniversary of “Purple Rain”, His Royal Purpleness is still going strong decades after the release of his iconic film and its blockbuster tie-in soundtrack. Just a few short months ago, Prince released a three-disc set of new material showcasing his multitude of musical skills and keen ear for producing various styles from R&B to rock to his classic “Minneapolis Sound” with equal prowess. Oh… And the man can still dance!

What made Purple Rain so unique and successful in its day was the use of MTV-style cinematography, utilizing rapid-fire jump cuts and close-ups along with musical numbers interspersed throughout in a club setting. It was a realistic musical where songs were part of the story as Prince’s character, the petulant Kid battled it out with the slick Morris Day for supremacy on the Minneapolis club music scene along with their respective bands. As opposed to classic musicals like Hello Dolly and Singin’ in the Rain, characters didn’t spontaneously burst into song. Instead, the music was relegated to realistic performance sequences. Also, the film deviated from the traditionally lighthearted feel of the musical genre, exploring such subjects as domestic abuse, greed, corruption, and other vices. The film’s soundtrack included such hits as “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy” and the epic, 7 minute ballad “Purple Rain.”

It wasn’t just the music that made Purple Rain so iconic, but also its clothes and costumes. Known for his flashy attire, Prince rocked the frills and Edwardian jackets like no other while female members of his band, “The Revolution” wore garter belts along with brilliantly colored military jackets with epaulets and dangling chains. On the flipside, Prince’s rival Morris Day and his band, The Time wore flashy gold lame zoot suits and Stacy Adams gangster shoes, epitomizing their glistening, materialistic worldliness. Much like knock-off versions of Michael Jackson’s red “Beat It” jacket , attire inspired by Purple Rain and Prince was all the rage in 1984.

Bring back a bit of the past and dig the music with Purple Rain inspired costumes to rock out at your next costume party. Check out How to make a Purple Rain Prince costume or pick up a gold lame zoot suit and pompadour wig in a slicked back style to look like Morris Day. (Don’t forget a friend to carry your oversized mirror for you, like Jerome!)

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk! Guess who’s back on the big screen, decades after the last member of the orignal comedy legends passed away? The Farrelly Brothers, the demented, madcap minds behind the comedy classic, Dumb and Dumber are reviving the Three Stooges for contemporary audiences for the big screen. It’s a risky venture considering how beloved the original — and inimitable — Three Stooges were to generations.

Comprised of two brothers (Moe and Curly Howard) and their longtime friend, Larry Fine, the Three Stooges were a vaudeville comedy team that used physical, slapstick humor in their act. Each Stooge had their designated role: Black-haired Moe with his distinctive, thick bangs was the ringleader and aggressor of the group, often bullying and picking on Curly and Larry. Larry, the level-headed (and frizzy haired) Stooge, still went along with Moe’s plans in spite of the fact that he knew better. (Larry just didn’t want to get bonked on the head. Can you blame him?) Perhaps the “Super Stooge,” was Curly, the big stooge with the crewcut and the mind of a happy-go-lucky and easily excitable child.

When Curly passed away, he was replaced by another Howard brother, Shemp. The group carried on until the mid-’70s when the last Stooge standing, Moe Howard, passed away. The group’s hilarity continued, however, in television reruns.

Now the Farrelly Brothers are attempting to resurrect the Three Stooges with a new movie in 2010 with well-known actors portraying the legendary Stooges in a comedy film. The film itself will not actually be biopic, but rather a fictional continuation of the misadventures of the Three Stooges.
Stepping into the roles of Moe and Curly are some rather unorthodox choices. Farrelly staple and muse, funnyman Jim Carrey will be playing Curly and may be a natural fit given his comedic timing and utter lack of shame to do anything for a laugh. Carrey will also be adding 40 lbs. to his lanky frame to get down the “look” of Curly on film.

While it’s easy to picture Jim Carrey as Curly, noted dramatic actor Benecio Del Toro is stepping into the role of Moe, the dark haired leader of the stooges.

The role of Larry was originally given to a highly unlikely choice, Sean Penn. Penn, however, left the project to take a break from acting. While no names have been revealed although the Farrelly Brothers have sent out a call to Penn’s successor in the role, actors like John C. Reily (Stepbrothers) and Paul Giamatti (who played in Fred Claus as Santa Claus and as John Adams in the HBO mini series have been mentioned as fan favorites for Larry.

Regardless of who gets to rock Larry’s frizzy auburn ‘do, The Three Stooges are timeless classics who would be welcome guests at any costume party. Jump aboard the Stooge Train, brush up on your best Curly Shuffle moves and try on some Three Stooges masks to trot out to your next costumed shin-dig. Perfect for going it solo, or with a gang of three, the “nyuks” keep on coming when the Stooges are around. Let’s hope the new batch can do the originals justice!

Although it won’t hit theatres until March of 2010, photos of Tim Burton’s re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice in Wonderland, are circulating. The film’s look is certainly what you would expect from Burton with a brightly colored, yet gothic-tinged aura about all of his films, including Sweeney Todd and The Corpse Bride.

The film will combine a mixture of live-action actors along with stop-motion animation (like Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas) and digital CGI. Even more ambitiously, this format will later be transposed to 3D — which, judging by the stills and production art, will probably make for a very trippy experience on the other side of the looking glass. Check out the art below and stills to get a sneak peak at what you can expect from this freaky fairy tale made just a tad more twisted:

It looks as if the singing, “human” flowers have made their way into the film!

Look closely and you can check out the White Rabbit in this photo.

Additionally, the cast is pretty much in keeping with Tim Burton’s usual crew that he’s worked with before, including perennial muses, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Burton’s partner, Helena Bonham Carter in the role of the Red Queen. Below are still photos of the actors in costume. They’re certainly quite colorful:

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter:

Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen (who is a mixture of the traditional “Red Queen” and the angsty Queen of Hearts from Lewis Carroll’s story):

Rounding out the cast are familiar faces to Burton’s audiences including veteran actor (and Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock, and Alan Rickman as the hookah-huffing Caterpillar. There are also a number of first-time Burton collaborators on deck for Alice in Wonderland including Little Britain’s Matt Lucas as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts.

The film’s lead is played by Mia Wasikowska, with an action shot of her in her Alice Costume, combining Victorian style with an ethereal flair:

and Oscar-nominated Anne Hathaway lends some additional star power as the kindly White Queen. The normally brunette Hathaway has been “lightened up” somewhat for the role with a sort of sort of elven look, seen below:

While several versions of Alice in Wonderland costumes have been around for quite some time — ranging from the Disney version, to American McGee Goth Alice-inspired costumes — we’re eager to see what officially licensed costumes may come from Tim Burton’s new flick. We’ll probably have to wait until next year, but as more photos and hopefully a trailer emerges, Costumzee will offer some tutorials as to how you can pull together yor own DIY version of these looks and find yourself ahead of the curve!
