The Joker costume alternatives

If you haven’t watched Batman the Dark Knight, then you might not really understand what I am ready to write below… BUT, you need to go see this movie, because it will become easily a top 10 movie of all times and you don’t want to be the one who says “nope, never seen it…” i’ll save you some embarrassment! Anyway, I did get the chance to go watch Batman the Dark Knight at an IMAX movie theater, and it was spectacular.

There has been a lot of buzz around Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker and I was expecting to be impressed. Well, I got way more than that. Heath Ledger as The Joker was unreal, he mastered the character and his performance has blown me away like Jack Nicholson in The Shinning.

You might have probably noticed that The Joker and Batman costumes top the current list of most popular costume ideas… and that’s no surprise, The Joker character just went mainstream and children or adult just want to live in his skin for a few hours fun. And it’ll be a nice tribute to Heath Ledger for this Oscar level performance, that’s really nice.

but, what about trying not to wear the same Joker costume everybody else will wear? Hmm, wondering what other disguises you could use?

There are several scenes during the movie when The Joker is actually not fully dressed as The Joker, as we all know him:

Joker - the cop costume

You can find cop costumes here, and just wear some Joker makeup to replicate the scars…

Joker - the nurse costume

One of the funniest scenes of the movie is The Joker wearing a nurse outfit…

So what do you need?

I can hear you from here…you wonder, how you’re end up looking…well maybe like that!

Scary no?!

Very lovely, but he did not ware a nurse’s hat in the movie nor stockings, but he did ware white low tenny shoes without socks. And yes I do wholly agree that that scene was the most hilarious of all. Though, I was the only one laughing in the theater, it was damn worth it. Cliff (Heath Ledger) was magnificent, a truly amazing performance!!! God bless him.

Ahaha, this is phenomenal! I only wish I’d looked here a LONG time ago. It might work best for me too, being a girl and all. Agh. [hits self in head]. Maybe I’ll be Joker two years in a row. :]
Thankyou for the idea though! Halloween 2009. :D

There were socks and actually I found out through someone who saw this scene at the imax they were the same checkered socks he work with his other outfits!

I am doing this for halloween! And I’m going to look fab! The socks he wore were mens black dress socks. No hat. and there were a few more details but I ‘m not sharing until AFTER Halloween! Have fun

It’s getting pretty tough to find all the props for the Joker costume this late in the game. A great alternative is definately the Joker Nurse! The outfit can be bought at any uniform shop or just ask a nurse for an old one! I’m sure she’d be happy to sell you one of her old ones real cheap, using the cash for a new one that she’s been holding out for! The makeup is easily gotten and the wig can be any old wig. Just color it red! Happy Halloween!

the wig is hard as 2 get, thou an easier way is to curl your hair (if it is long) and colour/spray paint(the hair ones) ur hair red.

A quick word about how to do the makeup so it won’t smear or run…use clown white for the base. Don’t put it on too thick, and only in patches. The secret is to then pat pat pat pat your face with your hands for maybe 3 minutes to set it in. Then lean over the tub, or go outside and use a powder puff and baby powder. Whoosh in on the face makeup pretty thick. Then use a little spritz bottle to spray water gently over the powder and that sets it up so it won’t rub off. Continue with the colors and black, then do the same thing….don’t worry about seeing a little powder, it will soak in. Also notice that in the pictures, especially the one of him in jail looking up toward the camera, there is an under layer of blue and green whisps above the black. I will do the colors first then the black over it. I’ll use a makeup wedge (get em in WalMart) to get this effect. Don’t just make black circles around the eyes…that’s dorky. I’m an old fart and I’m gonna be the best Joker at the pary.

Another trick….do an image search in Google for dark knight joker badge dent and find the color one, size it down, print and double laminate. Get a safety pin, and you have the Harvey Dent Badge he was wearing. I’m so lovin’ this. Of course it’s costin’ me a fortune in time and money. sigh

Oh…another thing, I got some latex makeup at our local magic store and it is awesome for the scars. You just have to build it up in layers and it sticks to the face. I’ll use a small brush to gently color it red, then do the rest of the mouth.
