About YMCA

YMCA can have to connotations. The first is that YMCA is talking about a fitness organization. However, when thinking of costumes the first thing that comes to mind is the Village People and their hit disco song “YMCA”. The village people were actually a police officer, American Indian, Cowboy, construction worker, biker, and a military man, as costumes. The Village People had a number of different hits and record deals from the 70’s. They are still active today, but less so than in the past. Other songs besides YMCA where Macho Man, Go West, San Francisco, In the Navy, Can’t Stop the Music.

Dressing up as YMCA

As mentioned YMCA refers to the Village People, which means that costumes are based on the outfits they wore when singing. You will need a police officer costume for one of the Village People. Another costume would be a construction worker. In this case a hard hat, flannel shirt, jeans, and tool belt is needed. A biker costume with leather hat and leather jacket along with a Sailor costume will help you complete the YMCA costume look. Certainly you can choose just one costume, but if you have a group of people consider having one costume each from a different Village People persona.
