About Wookie

From the densely wooded forest planet, Kashyyyk, Wookies are a tall, humanoid race in the Star Wars universe. Covered in long fur in various shades of brown which allowed them to blend with their surroundings, the Wookies' name for themselves translated to "People of the Trees." They made their homes high in the trees of their planet. Despite their inability to speak any language but their gutteral native tongue (they're physical/vocal makeup would not allow it), Wookies could understand and learn numerous languages. They were extremely intelligent and capable of understanding and harnessing technology in spite of their seemingly primitive way of life among the trees. Although peaceful, their strength and ability to master weapons quickly makes them formidable warriors. Once a year, Wookies celebrate "Life Day" honoring the many life forms on their planet, as well as ancestors.

Some famous Wookies include Han Solo's best friend and co-pilot of his ship, the Milennium Falcon, Chewbacca; Tyvokka, a Wookie Jedi during the time of Anakin Skywalker; and Lowbacca, Chewie's newphew who also became a Jedi.

Dressing up as a Wookie

Although most Wookie costumes are modeled after Chewbacca, you can use a Chewie costume as a basis to craft your own Wookie Warrior or Jedi from Kashyyyk of your own.
