About Witches

Witches have long been a fascinating and feminine aspect of folklore no matter which part of the world or which time you look to. From European fairy tales dating back to hundreds of years ago like Hansel and Gretel to Snow White's wicked stepmother with a penchant for sorcery to a sad chapter in the United States' early history dating back to colonial Salem, Massachusettes and the ensuing "witch hunt", there have been some witches setting bad examples for women. On the other hand, there are some "good witches" to look to in popular culture, as well. Dorothy never could have made it home without Glinda the Good Witch of Oz Television has also had some friendly witches-next-door such as Samantha Stevens of "Bewitched" and the Halliwell sisters of "Charmed."

Dressing as a Witch

Break out the broomstick and get ready to ride with a variety of styles of witch costumes to suit your wildest and witchiest fantasies. For a classic "Witchy Poo" look or to pay homage to the Wicked Witch of the West, grab a pointed hat, green makeup, and a prosthetic makeup nose with a wart on the end to redefine what a real "bad girl" is. For a sexier twist, there are several styles of witch costumes with either flowing or form-fitting long lengths and shorter, flirtier styles with fitted bodices. Grab up some spiderweb tights or fishnets to add a fun yet macabre touch to your ensemble!
