About Willy Wonka

The whimsical candy-making character of Willy Wonka was created by British author Roald Dahl for his book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. When the aging, eccentric chocolatier with a flair for the dramatic decides to choose an heir to his factory, he sends out five golden tickets into the world, the finders of which are invited to the factory for its first and only tour. The five children that won the tour were tested in their loyalty and the four misbehaving children are sent off separately in factory accidents, to be retrieved by their parents and Wonka’s factory workers, the Oompa Loompa’s from Loompaland. In the end, only Charlie Bucket remains to inherit the business. Wonka was portrayed twice on the silver screen by Gene Wilder in the 1971 cult classic and by Johnny Depp in the 2005 Tim Burton adaptation.
