About Wheaties

"The Breakfast of Champions," Wheaties are a brand of General Mills cereal that prominently features popular athletes on the front of the familiar orange box. The breakfast cereal made its debut in 1924 and is made of a wheat and bran mixture baked and formed into flakes. It is considered a high honor for an athlete to be featured on a box of Wheaties. Some of the all-time greats featured on boxes of Wheaties include Walter Payton in 1986 -- the first football player to be featured on the box; NASCAR racerDale Earnhardt in 1997; gymnast Mary Lou Retton in 1984; golfer Lee Trevino in 1969, Olympiad Jesse Owens in 1936; and baseball player Lou Gehrig in 1934 -- the first ever athlete to appear on the box.

Dressing up as Wheaties

Available in sizes to fit adults and children are officially licensed Wheaties costumes by General Mills. Each costume is shaped like the iconic orange box with the "Wheaties" logo stretching across the top in a classic, white font and its tagline, "Breakfast of Champions" in yellow. The box itself slips over the wearer's head and features cutouts for the head and arms, poking through a USA Olympic basketball jersey to give the illusion of a box come to life.
