About Wendy

Wendy is a character from Peter Pan. Peter Pan is a novel by Scottish playwright JM Barrie. The tale starts that Peter Pan and the lost boys live in Neverland because they don’t want to grow up. They are chased by pirates, especially Captain Hook. During Peter’s foray’s he comes to London and finds Wendy. He likes how she reads to her younger siblings, so with a bit of fairy dust and imagination everyone is transported to Neverland where they meet the Lost Boys and Tinkerbell. Wendy is a mother figure in the novel for the younger children as well as in the film adaptations. Peter Pan was first published in 1902, but it was the 1911 version that was actually novel length. It inspired Disney’s 1953 animation as well as Hook in 1991. Wendy in each of the tales is a young girl who decides she must grow up. Wendy does grow up and has children. Peter comes back many times and meets Jane, Wendy’s daughter.

Dressing up as Wendy

Though Wendy is a young girl she is still seen as a mother figure. Her costumes are generally period dresses that reach the ankles. Most costumes will also have white tights and Mary Jane style shoes. The hair for Wendy is going to be long and brown. Peter Pan, the Lost Boys, and Hook or some costume ideas to check out. You may also want to look at Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. Wendy’s costume is for toddlers to adults, but most common will be the teen size. There is something for everyone’s budget as well to be found.
