About Village People

The Village People are a disco band. The band started in 1977 and they are still somewhat active today. The group was most well known for their costumes on stage. There was a policeman, cowboy, construction worker, Military man, American Indian Chief and even a biker. They created several catchy songs like YMCA and In the Navy. The group has been very popular within the homosexual community as most of their song’s provided such a persona.

Dressing up as Village People

Since the Village People provided us with costume ideas you only have to choose which individual you wish to be. For the construction worker you would need jeans, a flannel shirt, tool belt and hard hat. Your other choice might be the Cowboy. In this case jeans, a button down shirt, cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and a fake horse might help you with the costume. A policeman outfit is often popular both as one of the Village People and as a profession. To dress as a policeman you have a few choices. For a female outfit you might choose a sexier costume with a tight shirt, and short skirt. The material would still need to be blue. However, since the Village People were all men you might be better off with the traditional blue pants, blue button down shirt, badge, cop hat, and gun utility belt. Do not forget the work boots.
