About Universal Studios

Founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle, Universal Studios is still going strong today, having produced thousands of films. During the 1920s and '30s, Universal was renowned for its monster movies, defining the genre. Some of these popular monster movies were based on literary horror characters like Bram Stoker's Dracula and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, while others, like the Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Invisible Man were new creations. Under the "studio system," Universal was home to contracted actors who made their name in the horror genre like Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff.

Dressing up as Universal Studios

The Universal Monsters are some of the most easily recognizable and enduring horror icons. Some costumes bear the licensed likeness of such stars as Boris Karloff as The Mummy with a high quality rubber mask to go with a costume.

For a fun, updated touch, opt for any one of the Universal Monsters costumes including Frankenstein, Wolf Man, and saucy versions of the Bride of Frankenstein. Toddler sizes are also available with ideas like Little Frankie and Wolf Boy with less scary, more child-appropriate variations on these classic themes.
