About Union Soldier

A Union Soldier is a person who belonged to the Union Army. The Union Army was also referred to as the US Army. The army mostly consisted of draftees and volunteers. The Union Army was formed in the North in order to defeat the Confederates of the South. There were many Union Soldiers of African American decent in the army. A Union Soldier is going to be male, since no women were allowed in the army at that time. Instead women stayed at home or worked in clinics to help the injured.

Dressing up as Union Solider

Union Soldiers had a uniform to wear, which can be used now as a costume for Halloween. Union Soldier costumes also work great in recreating the battles of the Civil War. Do not forget to have a confederate soldier along with you. The Union Soldier costume is blue with wool pants, and a wool blazer. The blazer has buttons down the front to keep it closed. Then a union Kepi or hat will be needed along with a fake sword. A sash in Union colors can complete the outfit.
