About Uncle Sam

Uncle Sam has long been a symbol of America personified, and is sometimes used as a slang term for the United States government, particularly at tax time.

Named after "Uncle" Sam Wilson, a meat supplier from Troy, NY who provided troops with food, the barrels marked with the initials "U.S." were referred to by the troops stationed in New York to have come from "Uncle Sam." The most familiar image of Uncle Sam, however, was seen on U.S. Army recruitment posters featuring a pointing Uncle Sam saying "I Want You." Uncle Sam's look was eerily similar to President Andrew Jackson, bedecked in a top hat and suit bearing the stars and stripes.

Dressing up as Uncle Sam

Celebrate great American holidays like President's Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, or the day your income tax refund check comes in the mail by partying it up in an Uncle Sam costume. To bring out the inner patriot in everyone, there are Uncle Same costumes available in adult and children's sizes, a Sexy Sam costume for the ladies, and even an Uncle Sam dog costume for your patriotic pooch. If you're not into dressing in the stars and stripes, you can still get your Yankee Doodle Dandy on with an Uncle Sam top hat.
