About Uhura

Lieutenant Nyota Uhura was the communications officer on the starship U.S.S. Enterprise in both the original Star Trek series and in the new 2009 film. She can speak many languages, including a number of Earth languages such as English and Swahili, as well as many intergalactic tongues including Romulan, among others. In the new film version of Star Trek, Uhura has a romantic relationship with the Vulcan, Spock, often helping to bring out of him his dormant, emotional side and comforting him following tragic circumstances. In both the original series and the new film, Uhura is gutsy and has the courage to stand up to a higher ranking officer (including Captain Kirk) if the occassion calls for it.

Dressing up as Uhura

Available in adult and kids' sizes are officially licensed Star Trek versions of Lietenant Uhura's regulation dress. Available in two styles, each dress is red and hits above the knee. The version based off of the original series has long sleeves and a boatneck trimmed in black with gold stripes on the sleeve cuffs. The newer, 2009 version features short, cap sleeves and an inset black mockturtleneck dickie. Both dresses have the Star Trek insignia on the chest. Wear with a pair of tall black boots to complete the look.
