About Tootsie Rolls

Tootsie Rolls are a chewy, chocolate flavored candy that come rolled up in waxed paper with a brown, white, and red logo. They were first manufactured in 1896 by immigrant Leo Hirschfeld in Chicago, IL where the Tootsie Roll factory headquarters have remained ever since. The candies even played an important part of WWII as field rations for soldiers due to the hardy nature of the candy and being able to withstand conditions that might otherwise melt any other sort of chocolate confection. Over time, additional flavors of Tootsie Rolls have come out with color-coordinating wrapping on the packaging. These newer flavors include vanilla, sour apple, lemon, and various other fruit flavors of the chewy candy.
