About the TinMan

One of the trio of friends that Dorothy makes in Oz, the Tin Man (or Tin Woodsman) is searching for a heart. Made entirly of tin and found rusted and in need of oil to grease his joints, Dorothy and the Scarecrow came across the Tinman frozen in place in the woods of Oz. While the Scarecrow desires a brain and the Cowardly Lion seeks courage, ironically enough, the Tin Man is the most emotional and kind-hearted.

In the original books written by L. Frank Baum, the Tin Man's origin is that of a human man named Nick Chopper, a woodsman. The Wicked Witch enchanted his axe to hack off his limbs in an effort to prevent him from marrying the girl he loved. The Tin Man replaced each limb with one made of tin until eventually he was made entirely of tin and left without a heart.

Dressing up as the TinMan

Dress up as the tragic Tinman character from The Wizard of Oz. Available in childrens' and adult sizes, the TinMan costume comes complete with a silver lame jumpsuit and a foam funnel-type hat. Pick up some accessories to give your costume some "character" such as the TinMan's heart-shaped clock worn around his neck and a Tinman axe. Don't forget the silver makeup and face paint to give your TinMan costume the perfect finishing touch!
