About The Thing

Gruff, tough, and with the appearance of a giant man carved out of rock, Ben Grimm is known as The Thing, a member of the superhero team, the Fantastic Four. He grew up as a normal human in Brooklyn on Yancy Street before receiving a college football scholarship where he meets his lifelong friend, scientist Reed Richards (who later becomes {Mr. Fantastic}. Grimm trained to become a pilot and eventually flies the ship on the fateful mission that leaves him, Richards, Sue Storm and her brother Johnny transformed with powers due to cosmic rays they're exposed to. Tragically, Ben is the only member of the group that becomes the Fantastic Four that does not have a human appearance or cannot revert to a human state. He's left to be a perpetual mound of musclebound rock. Grim eventually finds love with a blind sculptress named Alicia. He still retains his sense of humor, often falling victim to Johnny Storm's pranks on him in conjunction with the Yancy Street boys from his old neighborhood.

Dressing up as The Thing

"It's clobberin' time!" Get ready to smash some heads dressed up as The Thing of the Fantastic Four with officially licensed costumes available in adult and children's sizes. Versions of the costume are available with or without built-in muscle padding. Regardless of which version you choose, each comes complete with a one-piece jumpsuit with blue pants and a belt with the Fantastic Four's "4" insignia on it. The upper body portion of the costume is made to look like rugged, yellow rock with rippling biceps -- perfect for clobberin' {Dr. Doom}! Also included is a full, over-the-head mask modeled after the Thing's rock hard head with a gritty grimmace. Finish off your costume with a pair of Thing gloves, sold separately to transform your hands into a pair of rocks.
