About the Flintstones

Long before The Simpsons and Family Guy, the Flintstones were the very first primetime animated cartoon. The prehistoric "Modern Stone Age Family" lived in the town of Bedrock and followed the lives of the Flintstone family -- high-strung Fred Flintstone who worked in a quarry and his homemaker wife, Wilma. Wilma's best friend was Betty Rubble, wife to Barney Rubble, Fred's co-worker, friend, and dim-witted partner in crime. Fred and Wilma later had a daughter, Pebbles while Barney and Betty had a super-strong son, Bam Bam. Rounding out the Flintstone family was Fred's best pal and pet, Dino the dinosaur, a brontosaurus who initially was able to talk, but later communicated with a series of dog-like barks. The show's characters mirrored Jackie Gleason's "The Honeymooners" with Fred and Wilma paralleling Ralph and Alice Kramden.
