About Thanksgiving
The first Thanksgiving was held in 1621 where the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag Indians shared a feast. The feast was to celebrate the harvest of the fall as well as friendships between the Native Americans and Colonists. The meal was all about the cooperation of both parties, but also to say thanks for the successful crops they were able to create on the land. There were other harvests similar to Thanksgiving by other Native American groups like the Pueblo, Cherokee, and Creek. These festivals were not about the arrival of the Europeans, though. Instead these harvest celebrations were before that time. Now Thanksgiving is more about the food and having parties than the thanks that originally was offered. Americans celebrate the holiday, and prepare for Christmas as well as the sales for the day after. A traditional Thanksgiving may start with the Macy’s Day Parade and end with a huge turkey feast.
Dressing up as Thanksgiving
There are many costumes for Thanksgiving that you might choose for adults and children. It will also depend on your budget. A few examples are Indian Child, Pilgrim, Indian, Native American, and Turkey. A football is another choice you might like to choose based on the importance of football games on Thanksgiving. The costumes will range in colors as well as styles. For example the Pilgrims will be mostly black with white collar and cuffs. A turkey may offer orange, red, and brown coloring in a silly, but fun look. Among the many costume ideas for dressing as Thanksgiving there are also accessories like Moccasins, Tricorn hats, and even archery sets.
