A time-honored Japanese tradition and contact sport, sumo wrestling has been around for centuries. Involving two, large, hefty men, these sumo wrestlers stand inside a ring called a "gyoji." The first of the two men to use their weight and size to power the other outside of the ring or off his feet is declared the winner. There are several ranks within the sport of sumo, the highest one being that of a "Yokozuna." While most sumo wrestlers are of Japanese heritage, there have been several note-worthy sumo champions of Korean, Polynesian, and even American descent.
