About Speed Racer

Originating from Japan, Speed Racer was a popular cartoon of the late 1960s. The title character drives a supercharged car known as the Mach 5, built by his father, Pops, a former wrestler-turned-race enthusiast. Speed's rival is the mysterious Racer X, who is actually his own older, estranged brother Rex. Other characters rounding out the cartoon were Trixie, Speed's sweet girlfriend and Chim-Chim, the pet monkey belonging to Speed's little brother, Sprittle.

The long-time anime favorite has recently been turned into a live-action movie starring Emile Hirsch as the title character and also featuring Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon, and John Goodman.

Dressing up as Speed Racer

Available in adult and children's sizes, Speed Racer costumes are poised to become a popular choice with the release of the new live-action Speed Racer film. Dress as the Mach 5 driving Speed Racer himself with Speed's famed cartoon costume including a blue shirt with a yellow "G" on the side "pocket", red scarf, white pants, and of course his crash helmet constructed of foam and covered in a shiny fabric with an "M" on the front. Carry a toy monkey with you as your own personal Chim-Chim!

For a great couples' costume, ladies can dress up as Trixie, Speed Racer's girlfriend with a red top and matching capri pants included.

For a more mysterious effect, go as Speed's equally heroic rival/brother, Racer X, complete with a black over-the-head mask, a white padded jumpsuit with black boot covers, and an attached belt and "M" on the chest.
