About Spanish

Spanish is a language and a culture. Spanish comes from the word Spain where it originated, though Central America and South America also speak Spanish. Like most ethnicities Spanish people have had a different style of dress through the centuries. Central and South America were populated with immigrants from Spain when the New World was discovered. In fact some of the US was also discovered by the Spanish people, but other settlers won the battles taking control of places like Florida and Texas. California was also heavily populated with Spanish speaking individuals during its history. There are different nationalities when it comes to Spanish individuals. There are the Roma, Basques, Catalans, and Galician to name a few. Spanish people tend to have a bit darker skin than the rest of Europe, due mostly to the Mediterranean region in which they live. Their hair is also dark and brown eyes are common.

Dressing up as Spanish

Spanish costumes can include Mariachi, Matador, Senorita, and Conquistador. For a Matador tight fitting knit pants in black with a high waist are usually worn. Then a detailed white shirt with long sleeves, and short black jacket are added to the costume. To complete the costume a Spanish hat, and red cape would be needed. For the Senorita a flamenco dress is best. This style dress has an ankle length skirt, in which part of the skirt is slit up to the waist. It is a layered skirt with ruffles, meant to be easy to move around in for dancing. The top of the dress would be a tight bodice with ruffled short sleeves. The hair would be in a bun, with matching ornament. To complete the look high heel shoes and a rose would be needed.
