About Sonny

Salvatore "Sonny" Bono was born on February 16, 1935 and was a singer, producer, and entertainer who later became a member of California's House of Representatives where he served multiple terms. Sonny was best known as one half of the singing duo, Sonny and Cher with his then-wife. Sonny worked as a producer for some of the girl groups that Cher sang back-up for and encouraged her to go out and front her own. The couple scored a mega-hit with the song, "I Got You, Babe" with its folksy, hippie-flavored style and eventually landed their own comedy variety show, "The Sonny and Cher Hour". Sonny Bono was shorter than his wife and was known for his bushy, handlebar mustache, long-ish hair, and outrageous fashion sense which included bellbottoms and furry vests.

Dressing up as Sonny

Gear up as the brainy, zany, and thoroughly likeable Sonny Bono. Go it alone or say "I Got You, Babe" to a galpal dressed as Cher for a fun couples' costume. Put on the {60s singer wig} in brown with a fringe of heavy bangs, mutton chop sideburns and a shoulder-length style. Put on a thick brown mustache to match and hippie sunglasses in a circular style. The "I Got You" Sonny Bono costume features a loud, '60s psychadelic printed shirt, bellbottoms with an attached, oversized belt and a fringed vest.
