About Scrubs

Worn by medical professionals like doctors, nurses, and orderlies, scrubs are loose-fitting cotton clothing that usually includes a shirt and pants. These sterile, comfortable garments receive their name from the term "scrubbing up," washing their hands thouroghly prior to surgery. For this reason, scrubs often feature short sleeves, perfect for not getting your sleeves wet or having to touch clothing before going into the operating room. Scrubs come in a variety of colors and patterns but are best recognized in a pale, almost minty green/blue color. While medical professionals are required to wear scrubs, everyday people often wear them for their comfort as an alternative to sweatpants.
