About Sarah Palin

Born on February 11, 1964, Sarah Palin gained recent prominence in the American public's eye as 2008 Republican Presidential nominee John McCain's choice for Vice President. Sometimes known as "Sarah Barracuda," she is a former beauty pageant winner, winning the title of Miss Wasilla in 1984, going on to place third in the Miss Alaska pageant. (She did, however, win the title of "Miss Congeniality.") Palin's prior political history includes her tenure as mayor of Alaskan town, Wasilla from 1996 to 2002. In 2006 she was elected Governor of Alaska. She is the first Republican woman and first Alaskan to be entered onto the Vice Presidential ticket.
