In the wild, wild west, the easiest and most prevalent way to unwind in the dusty, unchartered territory was to haul it on down to the local saloon for some stiff drinks, card games, and wild women. Saloon girls, the pretty women who were as regular a fixture as two fingers of sasparilla, doubled as entertainers (depending on the saloon, some girls were REALLY "entertaining"!), singers, dancers, and in the case of Gunsmoke's Miss Kitty, occassionally a tough but sweet proprietor who kept the girls and patrons alike in line.
