In the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy's famous footwear wasn't originally hers. She came to be the proud proprietor of the glittering ruby slippers after her Kansas home was picked up by a twister and landed in Oz on top of the Wicked Witch of the East. The Munchkins and Glinda the Good Witch of the North gifted Dorothy with them as a thank you for her unwitting hand in the Witch's murder. Let's just say, the Witch's sister -- the Wicked Witch of the West -- was none too pleased! Fun Fact: In the original Frank L. Baum book, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," the ruby slippers weren't red at all, but actually silver. The 1939 film made them red so that they would show up better on Technicolor film. And history was made!
