About Rubeus Hagrid

A loveable giant, with a great heart and love for animals, is perhaps one description to use for Rubeus Hagrid. Hagrid is a fictional character in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series. As a half giant Hagrid is not as tall as his mother or other giant’s; therefore he is ostracized by his own species and that of normal people. Well by some normal people that is. Harry Potter meets the Gamekeeper when he comes to collect him to take him to Hogwarts. Eventually Hagrid becomes the Care of Magical Creatures teacher, but Hagrid does have some problems. He is not allowed to do magic and at one point is sent to Azkaban. Hagrid is played by Robbie Coltrane, who has been in James Bond movies and many other movies. A great actor Coltrane really brings the character of Hagrid to life in the movies.

Dressing up as Rubeus Hagrid

Hagrid requires a bit of padding and “larger than life” feelings! To dress as Hagrid you will need brown faux leather pants, with pockets, a red shirt with long sleeves, a leather belt, and faux leather brown vest. Make sure you use a little padding underneath the shirt to get the rounded giant look that Hagrid possesses. Over the main costume you need an oversized trench coat of faux brown leather. Luckily most of these items come in the deluxe and simple Hagrid costume set. In the deluxe version you can expect the fake hair to be included. A grizzly beard with moustache and long brown hair are part of the costume. Do not forget to bring Dumbledore and Hagrid’s other three supports along- Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
