About Romeo and Juliet

Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet were two young, star-crossed lovers of Verona in medieval times that inspired a playwrite by the name of William Shakespeare to pen one of the most enduring love stories of all time. Supposedly inspired by actual events, Romeo and Juliet's families were bitter rivals and sworn enemies. In spite of it all, they managed to fall in love which sparked even more of a war between the two clans with casualties on both sides. Although they tried to marry in secret, mixed messages and tragic circumstances led to the suicide deaths of the two young lovers. One part romance, one part cautionary tale, Romeo and Juliet are among the most well-known of all love stories of all time.

Dressing up as Romeo and Juliet

A great couple's costume for attending a party, or one of the most popular and widely-performed plays at a high school, collegiate, or professional theatrical level, there are a number of styles of Romeo and Juliet costumes that will allow these lovers to live again. Gentlemen can dress as Romeo with an authentically styled period costume based on those worn in Verona during the times of the Capulets and Montagues. Made of rich, blue velvet and trimmed in gold, the Romeo costume comes with a pair of knee breeches in a pantaloon style and a long-sleeved shirt with a matching cap. Another style that may work is a men's ruffled poet shirt with lace-up styling with a pair of fitted pants, and a hat with a large, romantic feather.

Ladies may transform into a lovely vision of Juliet with a number of Italian Renaissance style gowns in rich velvet fabrics or beautiful, glistening satin in jeweled tones. A princess style pointed Juliet cap with a long veil may be worn as well.
