About Queen Bee

Queen Bee literally means the adult mated female that lives in a honey bee hive. The queen bee is the mother of all the bees in the colony. The queens develop from larvae, which the worker bees offer to help the queen to become mature. There is typically only one adult bee in a colony. Bees are not necessarily born female, it is generally that one bee needs to become reproductive so the best candidate is chosen. In a bee hive a queen bee can be introduced with a few other bees to start making a colony. The queen bee’s sole objective is to reproduce, so she could lay up to 2000 eggs in the spring in order to build her army.

Dressing up as Queen Bee

Since queen bee can have other connotations besides real bees you have a myriad of costumes to choose from. Cleopatra costumes can be referred to as the queen bee due to her influential reign. A costume for Cleopatra would have to be that of an African Queen. The most popular queen bee costume is based on the bumblebee. The costume features a black and yellow horizontal striped top. Yellow lace and a white daisy are also part of the top. Then a sheer yellow overskirt with black bubble mini skirt completes the bottom section. A queen bee costume also includes yellow wings, and a black headband with yellow antenna. Queen Bee costumes come in infant to young adult sizes. There are a few adult options as well.
