About Punk

Punk, in its original incarnation, was a movement that incorporated a distinct type of music, an attitude, and a style of fashion. What initially began as an anti-establishment subculture evolved into a mainstream phenomenon, the antidote to the frivolity of '70s disco with socially conscious and angry rock. Spearheading the musical movement on one side stood surly Brits, The Sex Pistols; on another the crusading Clash; and on still yet another was the fun-loving Ramones. Fans of the genre spiked their hair into colorful mohawks and sported spikes n their leather jackets, belts, and bracelets as a means of wearing their disdain for The Man, on their (literal) sleeves.

Dressing up as Punk

Although the new wave of music has aligned itself with the old school punk movement of the '70s, they still don't make 'em quite like they used to. Kick it old school with a punk mohawk wig, the perfect compliment to a sneer along with some spiked bracelets. Dust off that old CBGBs shirt to wear underneath a leather biker jacket, grab some oversized black sunglasses and a long black wig with a heavy fringe of bangs in the front and you're instantly transformed into Joey Ramone!

For an anti-establishment couple's costume, go as punk rock's answer to a warped Romeo and Juliet as Sid Vicious and his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen.

And for those punks who like a touch of macabre with their music, opt for some Zombie Punk costumes straight out of "Return of the Living Dead" that would make Linnea Quigley proud!
