About Psycho

Psycho is the name of a book and horror film. The book was written by Robert Bloch, adapted by Joseph Stefano, and the movie was directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1960. It turns out the book was actually inspired by a Wisconsin serial killed by the name of Ed Gein. Janet Leigh played Marion Crane in the film adaptation. She embezzled for her employer and winds up at the Bates Motel. Norman Bates who is played by Anthony Perkins is the motel owner with a very dark side. Bates has been long abused by his mother from childhood until he becomes a teenager. Becoming angry with his mother and her lover, he kills them and then continues to kill women who stay alone at his motel. Psycho had an outstanding box office performance despite mixed reviews. There were four Academy Award nominations and it also spawned two sequels and a prequel, as well as a remake in recent years. The remake unfortunately did not do as well, some felt it lacked the necessary direction and it is hard to live up to Hitchcock’s amazing talents.

Dressing up as Psycho

In Psycho there is really only one costume that makes the cut. Norman Bates dressed up like his mother to kill and even displayed her personality traits. As a result of this behavior we now have the Psycho Mothers costume in which you dress in pants and dress shirt, and then place a 1940’s to 1960’s style dress over your clothing. Add to the costume a grey wig and carving knife and you are ready to make a killing in your Psycho costume. Psycho is not the only horror flick that offers great costumes, so consider Halloween or other films for psycho killer costumes.
