Jasmine, the Arabian Princess, is a fictional character who did not make her first appearance until the 1992 Disney film, Aladdin. Her character is based off of the original princess in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights , which is where the first story of Aladdin appeared. Jasmine is an adaptation of Princess Badroulbadour, whose ego was so massive that she was annoying. The persona of Jasmine was changed for the movie, making her a sweet, free-spirited, and sometimes cunning young princess who didn't want to marry a stuffed-shirt prince whom she didn't love. Eventually, Aladdin, disguised as Prince Ali, wins her heart and the story ends with the two living happily ever after in true fairy tale fashion.
