About Prince

A prince comes from the Latin word princeps. To be a prince you must be a member of the Royal family. In fact a Prince is often the son of the King and Queen in the family. The word was first used for the Roman Senate to establish a title for the informal leader. Emperor Augustus then used the term during his rule. The term has been used since Byzantine law and of course in the European Feudal society. While there are not many princes today, there used to be quite a few back in the 13th century and before. A prince can exist in any society that has a monarch rule. England has Prince Charles. Even countries in the Middle East have princes. Most notably we remember the princes not from history, but popular fairy tales. Often during Halloween children dress as the Princes from Cinderella, Snow White, and even Sleeping Beauty.

Dressing up as Prince

To dress up as a Prince you must first decide what style you would like to adapt. There are the movie Princes, which are most popular and then the crown and robe styles. The Frog Prince is quite popular with younger children. In this costume you would need a frog with a crown awaiting to be kissed by his true love. The crown and robe style prince uses a simple pair of black pants and dress shirt overlaid with a red robe with gold border. The costume is then topped off with a crown. Leo the lion was a prince and makes for an interesting and very warm costume. There are other costumes like the Warrior Prince or King from the earlier eras such as the Crusades. Then you have Disney Prince Charming from the Disney movies like Snow White. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella make wonderful costumes for women as a partner to the Prince. To be an Arabian Prince you simple need the Arab headpiece.
