About Prince Purple Rain
In in 1984, one album and one movie had the world spellbound. Prince and his band, The Revolution strutted onto the scene in a purple haze that brought with it a cloud of pure, Purple Rain. The album/soundtrack to the semi-autobiographical film based on Prince's early days on the Minneapolis music scene was #1 on Billboard and music charts of all kinds. A mixture of rock and funk, the album included the songs "When Doves Cry," "Let's Go Crazy" and the title track. In addition to being a mega-hit album and film, "Purple Rain" cemented Prince's reputation as a sex symbol and fashion icon with his distinctive, long, curly hair and wardrobe consisting of frilled collars and cuffs with lush purple velvet Edwardian jackets.
