In any democratic nation where officials are elected by the people, the President is the highest elected office in the country. In the United States, the President is the head of the Executive branch of government and works hand-in-hand with the legislative (Congress and House of Representatives) and judicial branches to create laws and help govern people. Also known as the Commander-in-Chief, the President also is considered a military head, as well. Setting the precedent for Presidents, the very first United States president, George Washington only served two four-year terms. He wanted to ensure that a President did not become a monarch with an indeterminate period of rule rather than a set term to govern. The one President who served more than two terms was the beloved Franklin Roosevelt who was president throughout World War II.

Dressing up as a President

Dress as your favorite president for a parade, school play, or historical costume party. Popular choices include George Washington, the first President and Barack Obama, the current President of the United States. Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and John F Kennedy are other great, easily recognizable presidents to dress as with a variety of disguises that include either latex President masks or full-fledged costumes with details that bring your president to historical life.
