About Poseidon
In Greek lore, Poseidon was the God of the Ocean, his Roman counterpart being Neptune. One of the main 12 gods of the Greek pantheon, sailors prayed to this might ocean god to ensure their safe passage and a calm ride on the waves. He was father to the Nereids, sea nymphs, and even some other creatures that pop up in Greek mythology. Poseidon was also partially responsible for Medusa being turned into a venomous snake woman after a tryst in one of Athena's sacred temples, angering the goddess and prompting her to take out her wrath on Poseidon's object of affection. Talk about the danger of dating deities! Yikes!
