About Popeye Olive Oyl

Olive Oyl is Popeye the Sailor Man's skinny sweetheart who wears her long black hair pulled back in a tight bun. She started out as a flapper with a very thin build and later became just a regular gal who fell for the spinach-eating sailor. Olive Oyl was a main character in Elzie Crisler Segar's comic strip Thimble Theatre, making her first appearance in 1919 -- a good 10 years before Popeye made his debut and the name of the strip was changed. She also appeared in the Popeye cartoons. Olive Oyl can be aggravated easily and usually runs hot and cold towards Popeye. She also takes care of her infant nephew, Sweet Pea who is almost always seen with her... At least when she's not being kidnapped by Popeye's rival, Bluto.

Two different styles of officially licensed Popeye Olive Oyl are available in sizes to fit both standard and plus sized ladies. The more sweet and sedate Olive Oyl costume comes with a black pencil skirt that hits below the knee and is trimmed with a yellow stripe, a red top with white scalloped petal collar, and a black bun wig to emulate Olive Oyl's signature hairstyle. The Sexy Olive Oyl costume comes with a clingy, one-piece minidress made to look like Olive Oyl's familiar red top with unique ruffled neckline and a much shorter, figure-hugging version of her black skirt trimmed in yellow.
