The Pope is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church who resides over Vatican City. There have been 265 popes since the Roman Catholic Church began. Pope Benedict XVI is currently the pope, who was elected in 2005. The papcy as the position is called is able to act as head of state for Vatican City and make rulings regarding Catholicism. In the earlier days popes tried to be rulers of other countries and force their religion on others. Now they are mostly there for spiritual guidance. A new pope is typically elected when the current pope dies. There is an abdication to elect a new person.

Dressing up as Pope

The pope like most of the other members of the church has a specific dressing style. The pope is normally seen in which robes, with the pope hat. Depending on the time of year the attributes of the robes can change. Your costume can also change with the different seasons. You may wear white with gold, white with purple or other colors. The papal hat is unlike all other clergy. The pope is not complete without a cardinal or nun by his side.
