About Pirate

Although Pirates have risen in popularity thanks to the likes of Johnny Depp and his Pirates of the Caribbean alter-ego Jack Sparrow, pirates are still kicking around the ocean even to this very day. Traditionally, most people think of pirates as seafaring ruffians who sailed around the world on large clipper ships during the 1600s up until the early 1900s. Recent events with Somali pirates holding an American captain hostage have proven otherwise that Pirates are still charting courses in the ocean and are in search of treasure (or just cold hard cash) by any means neccessary. The look of a treasure chest may have changed from the traditional version filled with jewels and dubloons to an attache case filled with cash, but the search for gold has never really changed, regardless of what century you're talking about Pirates in.

Pirates have long been the villain in many stories and the mascots of many products. These sea-faring robbers stop at nothing to plunder fellow ships, taking all passengers and riches upon them. What better way to scare little children or promote Long John Silvers than to dress up as a loathing pirate?

Dressing up as a Pirate

Arghh. Looking for a pirate costume, are ye? Anyone with the love of gold and strong rum can join in the fun, from little babies to the old and feeble. Whether ye fancy my pal Captain Jack Sparrow or prefer the metal appendages favored by Captain Hook, no pirate is complete without a long crop of hair and possibly a beard. Wear a long pirate wig and top it off with a tri-cornered Pirate Hat adorned with the Jolly Roger skull. Accessorize with a parrot on the shoulder, eye patch, or simple sword for plunderin' the town. Skulls always add a nice touch. No sea-faring man will ask ye to walk the plank wearin' this!

My talented and lovely wife made the vest. Bought the wig and added dreads from another wig. Added all the beads myself. Bought the shirt, pants, scarf and belts all separately. comment »

My husband was a pirate for Halloween, so it was only fitting that our son be his parrot. I had a lot of fun searching for ideas and tips to make this costume, which is pretty much just red tights, a red onesie and a winter hat covered in feather boas, and yellow rubber gloves stuffed with polyfill. Isn't he the most adorable parrot ever? read more »
