While they're associated with being dangerous and daring, wigs are hardly the things one would associate with pirates wearing while plundering ships and pillaging for gold. Many of the trade ships that they hijacked contained luxury goods, including the velvet and gold trimmed frock coats and waistcoats favored by pirates, as well as fine wigs in a variety of colors. As was the style during the 1700s, many noblemen wore wigs and their intended purchases ended up in the hands of pirates. However, many a pirate did wear his (or her) hair long. Let's face it, there weren't too many barbers or beauticians running around on a pirate ship to cut hair! However, long hair was easily pulled back into a ponytail or kept out of pirates eyes with a bandana while on deck.

Long, brown pirate wigs are also available for men, and a pirate wench wig with volumes of long, black spiral curls or blonde/light brown straight hair pulled back with a bandana are great choices for a lady pirate.
