About Pippi Longstocking

Pippi Longstocking is a Swedish fictional character. The character was created by Astrid Lindgren in books. From the books came movies and a television series. Pippi Longstocking is an unconventional individual who asserts herself and even mocks the parents she encounters. Pippi was first created in 1945 and has books completed in 2000 as a completion to the series. Pippi’s real name is Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Ephraimsdaughter Longstocking, hence the shorter name. Pippi always has her red hair in two long braids on the side of her head that stick out sideways.

To dress as Pippi Lonstocking you must first get the hair correct. If you don’t have long hair there are wigs for many size heads to give the red hair and sideways look. The rest of the costume is going to be patch work. Pippi is not a very wealthy child. In fact they don’t have much money at all. So the clothing can be black stretch pants sewn together, and then a patchwork shirt. The shirt is usually purple long sleeves, with a blue body and plenty of red patches.
