About Pin Up Girls
Pin Up Girls reached their peak of popularity in the 1940s, but have been around since the 1890s when photography started becoming more advanced. A pin up girl is a model whose photographs are mass produced. During WWII, soldiers without sweethearts used to "pin up" photos of models and actresses to look at something much more appealing than the turmoil of war around them. Actresses such as Marilyn Monroe and leggy Betty Grable (with one of the most famous "cheesecake" poses of all time) were pin-up girls alongside models like raven-haired Bettie Page. Photographers such as Vargas also contributed to the pin-up girl movement with stylized portraits of these beautiful women.
