About Pilgrims

Although the term "Pilgrim" usually refers to someone who makes a "pilgrimage," traveling a far distance, usually with some sort of religious significance in mind, in terms of the settlers who boarded the Mayflower and landed in the New World, this is actually very applicable. Traveling from England to make their home in what would become the United States of America,the main reason these Pilgrims left their homeland was for religious freedom. These Pilgrims took part in what would become the first Thanksgiving, a celebration of the harvest and all they could be thankful for. Alongside the Pilgrims, many Native American Indians took part in this celebration, having showed them how to use the land.

Dressing up as a Pilgrim

Whether you're part of a play or a parade celebrating Thanksgiving, there are Pilgrim costumes to fit men, women, and kids for an authentic look. Ladies and girls' Pilgrim costumes are very similar, each with a black dress trimmed with a large white collar and cuffs with a white apron and matching bonnet. Pilgrim bonnets are also sold separately in case you feel like doctoring up an old black dress or Goodwill find.

Mens' and boys' Pilgrim costumes come complete with a black shirt with white collar and black knickers that hit below the knee and balloon slightly. Accessorize with a pair of white nylon kneesocks and pilgrim shoes with buckles. Top it all off with a Pilgrim hat to complete your ensemble.
